Unlikely,
many people believe Line Dancing wasn’t born in the U.S.
Researches have shown that the history of Line Dancing goes
far back as BC. However, there is no evidence of the exact
location where it began.
The Line
Dancing we teach today started in the 1970’s. This
“new” type of dance is an evolution of the old
"Contra" dances, which were very popular in the
New England States during the 1800's.
With
the popularity of songs like "Achy Breaky Heart",
Line Dancing started making the country scene during the
1950’s. Seeing the potential of Line Dancing, record
companies decided to invest on it by holding a contest
looking for the best line dance to "Boot Scootin'
Boogie".
Today
Line Dancing is not only danced to country music, but to any
type of song. These songs range from the good beat of rock and roll to
ethnic songs from countries such as Ireland, Africa and
Australia.
